The Most Fun Video Conference Games | The Offsite Co.
With thousands of companies and millions of coworkers working from home, leaders need to implement successful WFH team building activities over video conferencing. Good news, we’re to help!
We started designing out-the-box video conference games to make these weird times at work, a little less weird.
These are real-life examples of fun team building games you can implement with your team. All it takes is a bit of customization and pre-planning to really make this events POP!
It’s important to note here though that these games needs to be well constructed and thought-out for execution.
A half-baked game can do more harm than good while tensions are high and people are trying to manage the crazy world of crushing work while being at home.

10 Fun Video Conference Team Building Games for Your Coworkers
1. At-Home Scavenger Hunt
Split your team into smaller groups and provide a check-list of things for each team to photo or video. We like to create custom slack channels for our clients so each team can post the submissions and be viewed by all.
Some creative items to capture are as follows:
Make a Recruiting Video for the company, Dog Bath, Buried Treasure, Mixologist (home-made cocktail), Kitchen-Sink Dinner, Most Company Branded Uniform and the list goes on.
2. Show And Tell
We’re kicking it back to a grade school favorite. Have each team member show-off their favorite pet, child, pencil, chair…whatever it is their house that they love!
A simple way to implement and execute this is to launch each weekly meeting by having 4-5 coworkers do their Show and Tell. Allow a minute or so for each team member and then dive into the weekly meeting!
3. Truth or Lie
Split your team into smaller groups and have them meet on their own in a Zoom Room. Each team member will share three “facts” about themselves and the rest of the small group has to vote on which one they think is the lie. We recommend no more than 8 people on each team. Coupling this, and any other game for that matter, with a Happy Hour is a great way to get a bit more engagement from the groups.
4. People Trivia
Send out a survey to your entire company. Ask each person to share a story or interesting fact about themselves that most people probably do not know. Once you have received all of the responses, assemble them into a Slide Share presentation.
Host a Happy Hour team meeting and go through each slide. Each coworker will post their answer to the question in a shared communication channel. The person with the most correct answers wins the GOLD!
A note about competition:
Competition is a great way to engage and inspire your team to commit to these virtual team building games. Offer prizes in the form of digital gift cards to your winning individuals or teams!
5. Build a Tower
This one is a fantastic game for a more structured team building game while working remote.
Split your team into smaller groups. Each group will be elect group members to fill specific roles. You can get as creative and specific with these roles as you want. For an easier implementation, you can just define the following the roles:
The Builder- In charge building the tower at home and cannot speak to the group about the project.
The Materials Team: Assign a couple people to pick the materials used for the tower. This will require the builder showcasing the materials he/she has in their house from the approved building items.
The Contractors: This group can speak to the builder but the builder cannot communicate back. They are in charge of using the materials collected and telling the builder how to construct the tower.
In the end, there will be a Measure Up Event where each team measures the height of their tower.
6. Mile for Mile
Split your team into smaller groups. Construct the rules for the challenge and make sure each individual and team can easily track miles logged.
A simple execution is to use the Under Armor App “Map My Run”. The rules are that individuals can only log human-powered miles. Think walking, running, biking and rowing. The team with the most miles logged by the end of the week wins!
7. Jam Session
Do you have musically inclined people on your team? If so, let’s do something special here. Find out who on your team plays an instrument and start a “Company Band”. A fun way to get everyone involved is to send out a survey and ask everyone on the team to submit a Band Name for the company. Get that list down to the top 3 options and then send out an opportunity for everyone to up-vote for the final name choice.
Meanwhile, your band members are rehearsing a couple songs to play for the group on the next company-wide meeting.
Fun Zone: We like to only let the non-band members vote on the name of the band. And then tell the band what their band name is a couple days before the Live Show.
8. Company Cribs
Remember that show on MTV where famous rappers would showcase their mansions with the most curated refrigerators we’ve only dreamed of. Well, we’re doing that for your company.
This is one where we definitely want to have optional opt-in for your team. Everyone can enjoy the final videos but only those who want to show-off their crib will do so.
This can run a couple of weeks so we recommend have 2-3 coworkers film their “crips episode” per week. Our clients then send those videos to our team and we turn it into a real production of the “Company Cribs” episode.
9. Work From Home Station
A simple and fun way for your team to share and show-off their work station while working remote. We’ve seen these be everything from incredibly cool workspaces to photos with dogs and kids climbing all-over the coworker.
10. Mixologist in the Making
Do you have someone on your team passionate about cocktail making? If not, you can always bring in an expert like our friend from Wylder Spaces.
Have your coworker host a mixologist course on making great cocktails from ingredients most everyone has in their home. We like to implement Company inspired names for each cocktail for these.
